For anyone involved in local government, health or voluntary sector communications we would strongly recommend registering to attend a future Commscamp – the ‘unconference’ for public sector communicators. As a long-running event sponsor, we attended the recent Commscamp North and loved our time there, meeting existing clients and forging new friendships with others. It was a great opportunity to discuss some of the latest thinking on communications and marketing trends such as nudge theory, listen to others on how they achieved some sensational campaigns, and win some rubbish in the ‘tat’ prize draw. Our designer Jo featured strongly in the cake awards while creative director Scott managed to meet his fellow bearded Everton-supporting lookalike from the north-west. Uncanny.

What is an unconference? As the organisers of Commscamp explain: “It’s an event where the agenda is decided on the day by the attendees themselves. No more boring PowerPoint on subjects you’re not interested in… If a traditional conference is someone saying ‘here’s the problem and how we did it’ then Commscamp is ‘here’s the problem, how do we tackle it?’ “

If you have tended to stick to ‘traditional’ conferences over the years we would urge you to give the unconference style a try. As sponsors it certainly seems that the NHS and local government communicators attending seem to get more out of it than the standard seminars and presentations that are generally served up.

We’re really looking forward to Commscamp in July in Birmingham where more great conversations are surely to be had. We work with a lot of public sector clients such as Essex County Council, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, Gedling Homes, Health Education England, and thus Commscamp is the perfect match for us. We hope to see you in Brum shortly. If you haven’t been able to get hold of a ticket for that event, we don’t want to miss out on seeing you so get in touch and let’s meet. Coffee, cake, chat, and rubbish souvenirs do not just have to be restricted to Commscamp days. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. soon.
