Sometimes on the conveyor belt of communications, things can seem a bit cyclical, a bit ‘samey’. As one year merges into another, the calendar of corporate events can throw up some similar requests, similar projects and a feeling of ‘haven’t we done this before?’ It can be all too easy to churn out the same old thing, new date on the front cover, and with a bit of tweaking to show that the content is fresh and relevant. Sometimes it’s a case of ‘needs must’. There might not be the time to carry out a full review of the production process and develop something scintillatingly different. But there is help at hand. Take the good old annual report. Loved by accountants and auditors, tolerated by most others, the annual report is the showpiece annual publication that sometimes seems to suffer from a little stage fright. It’s a ‘must do’ but sometimes the challenge of obtaining content, editing the text and gaining sign-off, getting it designed and printed, often against very tight deadlines, can turn it something of a ‘monster’.
